Deck Railings & Stairs FAQs
- What railing materials do you install?
- We install wood, composite, powder-coated aluminum, cable, and tempered-glass railings. During the consultation we walk through the trade-offs — cost, view, maintenance, and how each ties into your deck material.
- Are cable and glass railings code-compliant in Colorado?
- Yes, when engineered and installed correctly. Cable railings need proper tensioning and post spacing; glass railings must use tempered glass and approved hardware. We install both to current IRC and El Paso County requirements.
- Can you replace old railings without rebuilding the deck?
- Usually yes. If the deck framing and rim joist are sound, we can remove existing railings and install a new system. If posts need re-anchoring for current code, we handle that during the swap.
- What's the code for deck stair rise and run?
- In Colorado Springs, deck stairs generally follow the IRC: a maximum 7¾" rise and minimum 10" run, with graspable handrails and guards where required. We build every stair run to current code and permit accordingly.
- How much do new deck railings cost?
- Railing pricing depends on linear footage, material, and infill style. Most railing projects we do land between about $1,500 and $12,000. You'll get an itemized written estimate after the free on-site consultation.
